As I ponder the implications of the election of Barack Obama to the office of the President of the United States of America, I am thankful, more than ever, for the principles our great nation was founded upon. I am not happy that Barack Obama won, but he has been elected by the people our our great republic and he is my President. It would be pure insanity not to reflect upon the implications of our first black President. Barack Obama is not President Elect in spite of our Constitution, but rather because of it.
John McCain was an inferior candidate, as much as he is an inferior Senator. Though anyone who ran in these times, with the political realities which where in favor of the Democrat brand as they were, would have had a tough time, McCain made things worse with his asinine insistence of showcasing his ability to work across the aisle. Senator McCain repeatedly thumbed his nose at the Republican base, and only when the realization that he needed a "Hail Mary" pass in order to have any chance of victory did he toss a crumb in the form of Sarah Palin.
With his remaining time in the Senate, Mr. McCain should do everyone a favor and switch parties. At his best Senator McCain is a Regan Democrat, at his worst (which is normal) he is a R.H.I.N.O. Republican who has no qualms in shredding our Constitution (campaign finance reform) or hamstringing our business community (cap and trade, bail out bill).
